Stainless Steel Casting Overview

Stainless steel is an alloy containing 10.5% chromium by mass, a corrosion-resistant element. The alloy also includes elements such as copper, nickel, titanium, molybdenum, and many more, which have the same properties.

Stainless steel investment casting is a technical process that allows you to cast any metal into narrow 0.15-inch parts, highly complex parts up to 75 lbs, with tight 0.76 mm tolerances and superb surface finishes. Clesso Technocast has India’s best professionals who can cast components as small as a few grams to as large as several hundred kilograms, with tight, repeatable tolerances and minimal need for machining. We produce near-net-shaped parts with exact, intricate specs, ensuring you save time and money on post-production work.

FAQs

1. What is the casting material for stainless steel?

The casting material for stainless steel is a specific steel alloy containing a minimum of 10.5% chromium. Chromium is crucial for the material’s corrosion resistance. Other stainless-steel alloys include 304, 316, and 410.

2. Is stainless steel FCC or BCC?

Stainless steel’s internal structure changes based on the type and added elements.

Austenitic stainless steel is arranged in a face-cantered cubic (FCC) pattern.

Ferritic and martensitic stainless steels use a body-cantered cubic (BCC) layout.

Duplex stainless-steel combines both FCC and BCC structures in one alloy.

3. Is stainless steel casting expensive?

Generally, yes. Stainless steel casting is considered expensive compared to sand casting and die casting methods. The cost varies depending on the chromium and nickel content used in the casting process.

4. Can stainless steel 304 be cast?

Yes, of course. Using the investment casting method, we can cast stainless steel 304.
